sticks and stones

THE ONLY DEDICATED COURSSE TO COPING WITH VERBAL ABUSE
How would you respond to someone standing screaming at you, calling you a "F---ing sl-g!" or icily telling you they intend to kill your children?
Verbal abuse is a major source of stress and distress. It's not enough to say, "Don't take it personally!" Because much verbal abuse is based upon personal issues - be they colour, creed, gender or a particular physical attribute. We must ensure staff are provided with the skills to cope wtih verbal threats. If not verbal abuse can result in psychological trauma or even violent retaliation. Neither reactions are acceptable.
This is a powerful two day workshop which explores the menacing phenomenon of verbal abuse. How do you cope with 'hot' verbal abuse compared to 'cold' verbal abuse? This course will teach participants
strategies for managing both types. This course is restricted
to a maximum of six people only.

This course is validated by the Royal College of Nursing and carries 20 CEPs.

This course is being run in Liverpool (June), Birmingham (Sept), London (Oct) 2003

stress management

Stress management workshops abound. However this workshop looks at
organisational issues and the person - in other words the transactional
nature of stress. It is an informative, interactive and most
of all:its stress free. One day.

critical incident debriefing
(training the trainer)

This is a three day course designed to train up to eight people to become debriefers in the workplace. The workshop is powerful and challenging.

The course is very experiential and examines a number of debriefing
models before teaching students the nuts and bolts of debriefing
This course can be run in-house or individuals can attend at one of the training dates in 2003 in May (Birmingham), June (Liverpool), July (London), October (Glasgow & London).

bullying and harassment

Dignity in the Workplace
Training in the Trainer

Bullying and harassment are no longer to be accepted as occupational

one day workshop called 'I'm talking to you!' has been running
for three years.

Now Oliver Brennan Training offer a two day course on becoming a trainer in this increasingly important field.

2: What the law says about bullying in the workplace
3: Your role as an employer
4: How to recognise bullying in your organisation
5: Skills for dealing with bullies
6: Managing bullies OUT of the organisation
7: 6 survival skills for victims

This is a very interactive and challenging course and as well as incorporating audio and visual material.

team building

This is designed for a maximum of ten people. When there exists the
cracks disharmony, in will grow the weeds of inefficiency. Despite
the prose this workshop blows away the dust of complacency and
re-sets the corporate focus.

"grey, black and blue"

Working with older adults who express violence. This is a two day course
that examines the specific difficulties of dealing with a client group who, due to cognitive dysfunction fail to respond to traditional verbal
de-escalatory techniques and no less of a concern is the fact that many 'accepted' restraint or 'safe holding' interventions due not take the high risk of osteoporosis into consideration.

"taking a chance"

Risk Assessment, whether it be in relation to dealing with violence, suicide or manual handling is beset with confusing issues. Risk assessment is a legal requirement under the Management of Health at Work Regulations 1992. This one day course simplifies risk assessment,
using common sense and practical exercises.
