Delivering Dignity within Care Settings (Click to read)
This is a half day course designed to address dignity with health and social care settings. It will cover the following topics:
- Be able to define the word dignity
- Recognise the need to promote dignity within health & social care settings
- The 3 main factors that effect dignity
- Understand why dignity matters to patients, staff and the public
- Aiming to develop a dignity rich culture
- What the ROH are doing to achieve these goals
- What you can do to maintain dignity
- Understand the Dignity Audit

“it’s on the tip of my…toes!”- A powerful one day workshop on dealing with dementia
The workshop will cover the following:
- What are Dementia & Alzeihmer’s Disease
- How are they diagnosed
- The signs and symptoms of dementia
- Possible causes of the condition
- Other problems associated with the condition
- Treatment and latest research
- Helping to minimise confusion
- Understanding changes in mood, emotions and personality
- Managing challenging behaviours associated with dementia
- Grasping the ‘nettle’ of restraint
- What to expect and look for in a care/residential home
- The Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
This workshop uses a number of learning techniques, including lecture, discussion and group work.
The workshop is designed to be user friendly and will endeavour to explain jargon and terminology without compromising quality.
The course presenters are experienced mental health professionals currently working in this field of care.
Course Leader is Shirley Brennan (RMN, BA(Hons. Health Studies, Dip. Health Studies, Dip. Dementia Care) Shirley is a former Inspector of Nursing Homes and has more than 20 years experience of caring for people with Dementia. She has written several papers on the subject in a variety of professional journals
